Exclusive prints and one-of-a-kind designs are at the heart of Soma® styles. We’re excited to share our newest limited edition pieces designed by Pacific Northwest-based artist Sarah Gordon. Inspired by nature surrounding her coastal home, Sarah’s paintings boast lush botanicals and striking colors.
Can you spot the hidden gecko? Her artwork comes in our luxe satin separates, bestselling Cool Nights®, and beautiful bra dresses. Look for her exclusive prints titled Paradise Soiree, Paradise Garden Party, and Garden Gecko. Sarah aims to create joy through her art and we’ve had the pleasure of chatting with her to learn more about her creative process and what brought these prints to life.
Tell us about how you get into your process. How do you connect to nature?
“I live on an island in the Puget Sound in Washington surrounded by nature. I’m lucky to work from my home studio which is walking distance to the beach and hiking trails. I try to take a break during every working day to get out in nature and gather inspiration. Whether it’s beachcombing, taking photos of plants, or cold plunging!”
Can you share what inspired the two works you’ve done for us?
“I had in mind a beautiful, lush tropical garden with exotic birds and vibrant flora intertwined. The mood was joyful and a little playful with fluttering butterflies and even a hidden gecko.”
Tell us about your thoughts on the intersection of art and fashion. Why do you think they go together?
“I think art brings so much joy to people's lives and clothing is the perfect use for it. It can create a mood whether it’s calming, energizing, comforting, or carefree. Applying art to clothing can really influence how that piece will make the wearer feel.”
Paint us a picture of your ideal nature scene. Is it sunny or rainy, beachside, or in the mountains?
“Honestly I appreciate all nature scenes and seasons. I’ve always been drawn to the more tropical, sunny locations and absolutely love ocean swimming and snorkeling. However, living in Washington I’ve learned to appreciate the beauty of moody, rainy skies, hiking and mountain scenery!”
What’s one thing you hope Soma® customers take away from this collaboration, wearing your pieces, and being exposed to your work?
“I hope they can feel the joy and optimism of nature through my art. I want the person wearing these pieces to feel as if they’re walking through an exotic garden and enveloped in this delightful, tropical paradise.”
